Cross River Rail is part of the Queensland Government’s transport vision across South East Queensland, a vision which is shared by Brisbane City Council. The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is working with Brisbane City Council to deliver an integrated transport solution, built on both Cross River Rail and Brisbane Metro, that will relieve congestion issues across the network. With all passenger rail lines using the same four inner city stations and a single CBD rail crossing of the Brisbane River, there’s a serious bottleneck at the core of South East Queensland’s transport system. This bottleneck doesn’t just slow trains right across the rail network; it causes traffic congestion on our roads and slows down our buses too.

Cross River Rail clears this bottleneck. It will ease congestion by taking up to 18,500 cars trips off the road by 2036 – the equivalent of more than 300 full buses a day.
